***Sorry I cut it off so abruptly... it felt like a long post and I should be getting to bed lol... finish it tomorrow! Promise =D***
I woke with a start, 6 minutes before the alarm was set to go off. I rolled myself out of bed and turned the clock off before heading into the bathroom. I let the water warm before stripping off my boxers and stepping in; it was going to be a long day and I already had the feeling that it wasn’t going to go good. Mom, Dad and Taylor were leaving, driving home to Cole Harbour around 8. Mom had already said that she was going to pack some of Karrington’s things and send them down; until Karri and I could get back home for a bit. After this I had a morning skate, plans with Marc and Talbot and then a charity banquet tonight. If that wasn’t enough to stress me out I was also planning on running down to the store to check out the news-stand, to make sure that there was nothing in there about Karri.
I purchased a copy of the local ‘tabloid’ and was instantly relieved to see nothing about Karri on the front. Although this magazine also included mostly California/New York pieces about high-named celebrities, they always included anything ‘exciting’ from the Burgh.
After flipping through it twice and not seeing anything, I was satisfied enough to replace it back on the stand, buy a real newspaper, and then head back home.
“Hey Sid, early morning?” My dad called as I walked through the front door.
“Yah, just went out to grab a paper… this everything here?” I asked pointing down to the pile of luggage by the front door.
“Yah, you mind?” I shook my head and threw the paper down on the entry-way table, I started grabbing random pieces of luggage and carrying them out to the car. After three trips, the luggage was packed in the SUV and I headed into the kitchen to find everyone eating breakfast.
I grabbed a stack of toast, a pile of ham and plunked myself down at the kitchen table. Karri chuckled at the amount of food on my plate, as she picked away at a pop tart.
My parents bantered back and forth about the drive back, what they would send back down for Karrington and other things that I didn’t pay attention to. I was sad that they were leaving but at the same time I couldn’t wait for them to go. Over the course of my run home I started to become more and more excited about the idea of having Karrington all to myself. I started smiling as I thought about how things just seemed to get so much better in the past few days, with no intentions of stopping.
Karrington saw me smiling at her and shot me a questioning look. I shrugged and kept smiling as I continued to shovel ham into my mouth.
We were curled up on the couch watching Friends after my morning skate. Marc, Talbot and I were suppose to be meeting up with Jordan to play some pool and relax before the charity event tonight. Vero and Sana were suppose to be coming over to get ready with Karrington. We had about an hour before we had to worry about getting ready and my mind was still filled with all the ideas I had thought of this morning.
I pulled Karri into me and she seemed to pick up on my mood instantly. She rolled over so that we were face to face, before letting her lips trace my jaw.
I rolled over onto my back pulling her on top of me.
We were just getting dressed when the front door flew open. Karri hoped over the couch with my shirt, pulling it down over her head; leaving me standing in the middle of the leaving room with nothing but my boxers on.
“You’d think you’d never had a house to yourself before!” Max quipped as he strutted into the house, Marc close behind him.
“Where’s Karri?” Marc asked looking around the room.
“Hi Marc, Max…” Karri stood up from behind the couch, her hair dishevelled and my shirt covering midway down her thighs. Marcs’ eyes grew wide and he started laughing.
“Oh sorry, we didn’t mean to…”
“It’s ok… I was just on my way upstairs!” Karri pulled the bottom of the my shirt down as far as she could before dashing up the stairs towards our room. Vero came in a minute later followed by Sana. They both looked over to where I was standing, taking in my attire, and also noticing the laughter coming out of Flower.
“Hope we are not interrupting…” Sana asked slowly, looking from the boys back to me.
“Karri just went up stairs… I’d give her a minute though…” Max said, folding his hands over his chest and rocking back and forth on his heels. A look of comprehension dawned on the faces of both girls, as they too started laughing before heading up the stairs.
“Ugh! What is your problem?” I asked Max for the fifth time that day.
“No problem…”
“Well how about you back off then?”
“Come on boys, let’s get back to the game.” Jordan said, coming up between Max and I.
I couldn’t understand what his problem was. He’d been razzing on me all day. Normally he poked fun at my ‘movie star’ lips, my large gluteus or my addiction to pulling out random Friends quotes; today was different. Everything I did Max had something to say about, whether it was something I said, something I did or even the way I was playing pool. I was at my boiling point. Jordan and Flower were picking up on it. Normally we would play for hours, just laughing and goofing off, but today we cut it off early and headed our separate ways.
I could hear the girls laughing from my room as they got ready for the evening. We didn’t want to disturb them so Marc and I made my way down to one of the spare rooms to get dressed.
We were ready before the girls, even though they had started getting ready way earlier; so Marc and I opted to play some Xbox while we waited for Geno to show up.
“Are you ready?!” Vero yelled from the top of the stairs.
“Yes… we’ve been ready for 3 hours! We’re gonna be late!” I yelled back up, the girls answered by giggling.
Geno mumbled something in Russian before yelling up to the girls too, "If I have to go up to you, the dress comes off!"
I heard Oksana let out a shriek as she came running down the stairs in a tight red gown. She was followed by Vero in an orange dress and finally Karri. Karri looked beautiful in a fitted multicolour dress and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.
On the drive to the charity event I had a hard time focusing on the road. I had never seen Karri dressed up before. I had been busy with hockey during our high school prom, so she hadn’t bothered to go; and there had been no other events in our time together that she had needed to be dressed up for. I never thought it was possible for her to be anymore beautiful.
I was so excited to walk into the banquet hall with Karri on my arm. Normally I was the solo guy at these kind of things, and for the first time I was glad to have someone with me.
I had a speech to give, so I wound up having to leave Karri with some of my team-mates to take the stage.
After thanking all the supporters for a great year and presenting the money to the Pittsburgh hospital, all I had to do was stand on the stage and smile while Mario gave his speech.
I could see Karri off to the side, alone with Max. He was standing very close to her, close enough that she was getting uncomfortable. He reached out and was holding on to her arm; it took all my willpower to stay on the stage and not run over to them.
Mario finished his speech after what felt like forever, and I quickly excused myself to go find Karri. She was no longer over in the corner; Vero, Marc, Max, Geno and Oksana were no where to be seen either.
I heard girls voices from behind the ‘staff only’ door and I pushed it open quickly and ran down the empty hallway. The hallway led out to the back of the building and I saw Karri standing with her back to Oksana; her hand pushing Emma away.
Emma was TK’s girlfriend, a very conceited, selfish girl. She had met TK at the Diesel and had basically tried to pretend she didn’t know who he was. She was always spending his money and using him for the ‘perks’ that came along with being a pro hockey player. She was also the girl that gave Sana the hardest time and the girl that had hounded me for months to date her twin sister.
“I don’t care how amazing you think you are. You have no reason to talk to her like that!” Karri stood protectively in front of Oksana, who looked dishevelled.
“Oh, of course you’d say that! You and Sid break up and now all of a sudden your back in the picture. How long were you in Pittsburgh for before you fucked him? You think you’re so special because you knew him when you were younger?! That doesn’t make you special… you’re still a whore… just like her.” Emma jabbed her finger in Oksana’s direction.
“What’s your problem Emma?!” Vero shouted, close to tears. Some of the other girlfriends were out here too, I had no idea where any of my team-mates were.
“My problem is these stupid bitches showing up and thinking that they’re entitled to something. I worked hard to get where I am! Do you have ANY idea how much shit I have to take to stay in this position?!”
“What are you talking about,” Karri threw her arms out to her side. “He’s your boyfriend and you’re talking about him like he’s some kind of job.”
“It IS a job! It’s my job, and you better not forget it. Sidney might be all happy that your back now but he’ll get sick of you. Then he’ll go back to my sister. Or didn’t he tell you? He was with my sister until you showed up.”
“That is a lie… Sidney never wanted to date her! You keep trying to throw her in his face. This is why you are angry now? Karri, she tried to get Sidney to date her sister and he wouldn’t. Then she try to get Geno too. That’s why she hates me.” Oksana pulled Karri away from Emma and closer to her.
"No we hate because you think your better than us. You think that being Russian will make him stay with you, and it won't, just like you think being Sidney's high school slut will make him stay with you. You aren't wanted here." Ashely, the young girl that was dating Sergi had moved up beside Emma.
“Gold-digging’s hereditary, in case you didn‘t know.” I said walking outside into full view. My appearance had brought some reality to the situation, Emma and the girls behind her started to back off. Oksana breathed a sigh of relief before quickly walking over towards me, pulling Vero and Karri behind her. “Don’t worry though, I’ll make sure TK knows’ how much you love your job, I’ll see if I can get you a raise. You interested in that too Ashely? Jennifer?”
“You wouldn’t dare.” Jennifer, the Penn State student who had managed to get in tight with Letang, spat at me; her hands going into tight fists.
“Don’t tell me what I wouldn’t do. Doesn’t matter though… it’s not like they don’t already know. But hey, nothing wrong with screwing around with trash till you find the one you actually want to keep.” I put my arms around Sana and Karri, following Vero back inside. I slammed the door behind me, leaving the other girls in the back alley.
